Education
In my opinion, it does NOT make sense to suppress athletic excellence because of an academic problem.
But, public high schools hold out athletics as a “holy grail” -- available to only those who make a certain academic achievement, leaving many good athletes OFF the team, bitter and resentful toward school.
In other fully developed countries, high school athletic teams are sponsored by private individuals, corporations, and community groups. High school athletics in those countries has NOTHING to do with grades or the schools. It’s about sports.
An interesting concept is used there: athletes are on teams because they are good in their sport, not because of their grades.
I wonder, if athletes were allowed to shine in their sport, would they do better on their grades?
